Aviation Research

A research project with vertically integrated student teams, AODB and ARMS. In an industry-like environment, the participants develop interconnected software systems in the domain of aviation. The core component of this program is the Airport Operational Database (AODB). It acts as a data hub, where all relevant information comes together. The AODB was the first component developed in the ASAP program. A subsystem in this context is the Airport Resource Management System (ARMS). The aim of ARMS is to create software in order to manage airport specific resources like apron positions (the area of an airport in which aircraft are parked) and gate allocation. Based on agile methods and the agile software development framework Scrum, a development process was designed for the ASAP program in order to guarantee good quality of the resulting software product. As the project progressed, the process was continuously adjusted to fit the needs of a student project with developers on different skill levels.
